During my photography classes at USM, I focused mainly on black and white film-based photography. In an attempt to expand my knowledge, I took a summer course on digital photography. Unfortunately, this class took place in what turned out to be a very difficult time in my life. Because of this, I had a hard time 100% dedicating myself to the class. Though, some really great work came out of the class.
The image on this page is titled “Paul Swims with the Fishes”. The subject of the image is my classmate, Paul Tynes, taking an image for a project in a dried up indoor pond. We were on a photo walk as a class so everyone was taking images left and right. I just happened to turn and take this image, thinking nothing about it other than I found it funny. The title comes from the fact that there are a bunch of really crudely painted fish on the stones that Paul is standing on.
I mentioned earlier that this was the only digital photography class during my schooling. All the more funny that this is the only photo piece I’ve ever had win an award. It won second place in the Spring 2012 Student Art Show for the USM Department of Art & Design.
As a side note, if you need any design work in the Hattiesburg area, you should definitely check out Paul. He is an excellent designer!
